Friday 20th May

We packed up, in what Mrs Wilkins said was record time. Everyone chipped in and did their bit, so well gone guys!

We then headed down to the pier to polish up the TJS plaques, I must say I think they did a great job. After a stop at the shop and a quick treat we were ready for our final circle time of the holiday. It was lovely to listen to everyones best parts of the trip! Lunch and a play on the beach was of course in order before we got on the coach and headed home.

5SL, I would just like to say that I am so proud of every one of you, wherever we went members of the public commented on your brilliant behaviour, helpfulness and politness, which was lovely for us teachers to hear. You were a real credit to yourselves and the school. The questions you asked and the information you took in was amazing, well done!
Parents, quick heads up, they have proven to us they can; set a table, clear a table and keep their rooms spotless!

Thank you to Mr Smith, Mrs Wilkins, Ms Canessa and Ms Griffiths for taking us on the trip, we all apprieciate your help and knowledge and we all love Swanage now too! We hope you had a lovely time and get a good rest this weekend.

Thursday 19th May

It was our last full day in Swanage and it was great fun!

Today we were historical detectives, we went down to old Swanage and learnt about George Burt,  as well as looking at the different historical builds and architecture.

We then caught the ferry down to Brownsea island where we had an intresting lunch with a peacock, thank you Ms Griffiths for protecting us for the whole lunch.

After lunch we split into groups and rotated around some different activities. We explored the visitors center, where a lovely guide told us interesting facts about Brownsea Island. We also looked in the church and learnt about the different features, last but not least was the treasure hunt. We had to use our orinteering skills to find the different letters around Brownsea Island to lead us to the treasure. We had a lovely day and enjoyed the chicken curry for dinner and the activities at the beach.

All packed up and ready for tomorrow. We are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow at Twickenham Green around 4.30pm.

Wednesday 18th May

Today started with another filling breakfast!

This morning we went down to Studland Nature Reserve and looked at the different habitats in the area! We were looking at the difference between the beach, sand dunes and the woods. Kevin our guide told us that the nature reserve is home to all the British Reptiles. 

We then caught the coach to Corfe, where we stopped for lunch and some fun in the park. Corfe castle was next on the agenda and, even though it was a bit soggy we learnt a lot, for example: the history of the castle- from the Normans to the Civil War. Although we were cold, we asked some great questions and found out some interesting facts. Liz our guide commented on how brilliantly behaved we were and how well we listened and therefore awarded us all with a Dorset Diamond. 

After that, we went on the Steam train. We loved looking at the views and writing some poetry:

On the way to the train,

There was a lot of rain.

It took us a while,

But we still had a smile.

The porters dressed smart,

Old fashioned like art.

The whistles they blew,

We knew what to do.

We lined up straight,

And waites at the gate.

We went and sat down,

There was a guy with a frown...

A quick stop at the beach then it was time for dinner, unfortunately for us this is where Mr Smith had to leave us. We had a great time with him and appriciate all his help and hard work, it was sad to see him go.

We then quickly changed and lined up ready for the beach and to our surprise, Ms Griffiths happened to be at the door. At the beach we all really enjoyed working in our teams to compete in the sandcastle compition, where we all created so mavellous sand sculptures. 

All in bed ready for tomorrow!

Tuesday 17th May

Day Two has been a success!

We had an exciting start to the day, breakfast! Cereal, toast, bacon, eggs and hasbrowns were on the menu, which went down a treat.

After room inspections, which were harsh, we had a lovely stroll down to the beach to skim some stones and have a snack before starting our hike up to Old Harry Rocks. We also got to write some lovely poems at the burial mound:

Still and silent, the strong tranquil trees,
The dosing flowers,
Is what every bird sees.

A cold subtle breeze,
Blows silently across the ocean.
Grass dances in the wind, the valley is free of emotion.

Cotton candy cloud's,
Shimmering through the trees.
Sitting on the grass and believing I can fly...

All the teachers have been impressed with 5SL today! Well done to Poppy for winning the polo competition.

Whilst stopping for a rest and admiring the view we were lucky enough to spot a baby snake in the grass, we think it's Luna's friend.

We were still smiling when we reached Studland Bay and played lovely on the beach together, after enjoying a special treat.

Dinner, room inspections and showers were in order before a game of cricket, wave jumping and gymnastics on the beach. This was followed by a hot chocolate and bedtime story in our PJs!

All tucked up now and getting a good night sleep ready for tomorrow's visit to Corfe Castle!

Monday 16th May

Day one complete,
All the children are tucked up in bed after a long, but great day!
We loved exploring Durlston Country Park and we learnt alot about the wildlife and the Swanage area. We also visited the lighthouse and had the opportunity to put our poetry skills to the test:

Tranquil sea rippling to the winds song.
Wind slipping through my hair.
The everlasting greenery farms a path so long,
With the swift fresh and cool air.


After dinner, we had time for a trip to the beach; football, sandcastle building, paddling and burying each other in the sand, were the most popular games. To warm up after our cold beach trip we had a hot chocolate, introduced our teddies and went to bed.

We can't wait for tomorrow!

5SL in Swanage Monday 16th May

5SL have arrived safe and sound in Swanage. The sun is shining and everyone is enjoying their picnic at Durlston Country Park.


Looking forward to visiting the lighthouse and globe later this afternoon.

This week, we've been using the maps to work out where we will be this time next week. It's all been very exciting and we are looking forward to going to Swanage even more now!
